Francis Hopkinson reported in detail that on the 4th of July in 1788, the people of Philadelphia celebrated the Declaration of Independence and the establishment of the Constitution in a Grand Federal Procession. Representing CONVENTION OF THE STATES: The honourable Peter Muhlenburg, esq. on horseback, carried a blue flag, with the words "SEVENTEENTH OF SEPTEMBER, 1787," in silver letters. |
