The advantage of describing flags that represent areas, is that it's quite rare for two areas to claim they have the same territory. For one thing, areas tend to refer to larger areas, and that goes up to a level of sovereignty, acknowledged by a group of some 200 countries in the world. Either your country says that the area belongs to you, or it says that it doesn't. Usually, once it's decided, it is decided. Now think of the Southern Yacht Club and the Pass Christian Yacht Club, who both claim that they are the club that was formed on 21 July 1849.

OK, the PCYC side of the story is that the Southern was created in Pass Christian but that it became the Pass Christian when the Southern moved to New Orleans. That was in 1857. According to Lloyd's of 1906, it took a few decades until in 1884 for the Southern to get incorporated. Lloyd's already had no idea when the Pass Christian was founded, but first in 1901 they too got incorporated.

They each have a blue burgee, with in white a dotted abbreviation of their name. "PCYC", resp. "SYC". The latter has a white border along its flywise edges, though. I've looked fleetingly through Manning's to see when the Pass Christian Yacht Club is first mentioned, but as far as I can see it's not mentioned there at all. It seems like the Pass Christian one day thought up that story about its origin, and immediately ran to a lawyer to get incorporated, and after that they got included in Lloyd's.
