The coat of arms of Nuevo Laredo was adopted on 7 April 1948, being submitted by Felipe Durón Robles for consideration to the council. Protected by the Regulation on the Characteristics and Use of the Coat of Arms of the Municipality of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, published 4 March 2014. The coat of arms has a scrolled frame, reading at the bottom SIEMPRE CON LA PATRIA [Always with the Fatherland]. At the top are two flags and halberds, signifying the Spanish weapons, and an Indian head in the center to recognize the tribes of the area.
The shield is divided into four sections; the upper-left is divided into two. Colors may differ on more modern versions. The upper section on it is blue, having a black eagle to symbolize the arms of the First Count of Sierra Gorda, who ordered the foundation of San Agustín de Laredo; to its side is a silver star signifying its foundation. The lower section depicts (over gold) an evergreen oak to remember the town of Laredo in Cantabria, Spain. The upper-right section depicts 31 (green) X shapes, signifying the founding families of the new city. The lower-left section depicts (over silver) the Rio Grande, the boundary between the city and the United States; to the left side is the National Flag. The lower-right section depicts over blue the Bernal de Horcasitas hill, apparently belonging to Nuevo Laredo and represented by a golden star to its side.
