The council appears to still have possession of this flag. Its history is unclear, but it depicts a unique design (not the municipal coat of arms). In the center is a scene depicting the Immaculate Conception church over a sky blue background. To its sides at the bottom are an Indian and conquistador, remembering the colonization of the area. To the left, "Cd. Mier" is read; to the right "Tamps"; and at the bottom "1753", the year of its foundation.

The coat of arms was designed in the 1940's by the First Municipal Chronicler Antonio María Guerra. It has the same format as the coat of arms of the State, having a scrolled border. Divided into 2 halves, the upper half is also divided into 2. The left side depicts a Spaniard over blue; the right an Indian over red, symbolizing mestizaje. Between them is a shield in purple and red, having a Latin cross and two jugs to its sides, alluding to the primitive name "The Pass of The Jug" (El Paso del Cántaro). The lower half depicts a river and a sandy shore, symbolizing the Rio Grande as the international boundary here. The right bank depicts a horse and two cattle looking to the left, remembering the cattle-raising industry. In the background is a factory (cotton), remembering the wealth it gave to the region.
