Coat of Arms

from Wikimedia Commons

During the administration of Municipal President Elías Castro Medina, a call for submissions was launched for the creation of a municipal coat of arms. The design by the painter José Luis López Vega was chosen through this. In 1993, the architect Carlos Grosso Bustamante was given the task of modernizing the symbol. The coat of arms has the same form as the coat of arms of the state, having scrolled edges; at the top is a ribbon reading MPIO. 43, recognizing it as the most recently created municipality in the State.

The left side reads GUSTAVO DIAZ ORDAZ; to the right TAMAULIPAS. The upper half is divided by the monument to Miguel Hidalgo, found on the avenue of the same name in the municipal seat. The upper-left section depicts two hands breaking a chain and the year 1968 over red, remembering the struggle for municipal autonomy. The upper-right section depicts the "Chalán" (Horse Dealer) ferry over the Rio Grande, which leads to the community of Los Ebanos in Texas. The lower half is divided by a canal, with a green and brown shoreline. To its right, a cow and two goats graze and eat grass; a water tank is also seen and the clouds. The lower-left section depicts a corn, sorghum plant. A vegetable row is also seen. The upper part of this depicts a tractor and a man ploughing a field, remembering agriculture..
