Description of the flag

The City of Bentonville, Arkansas, USA, has a new flag. It can be seen in a PDF Document here: www.bentonvillear.com/docs/admin/newsletters/summer_2008.pdf.

The Bentonville City Flag appears to be largely based upon the municipal logo, which appears at the head of the municipal web site. There are two entirely different cities in Arkansas with very similar names, Bentonville and Benton. Both cities however are named after Thomas Hart Benton, a US Senator from Missouri during the second third of the 19th Century who was noted for his particularly irascible temper and his proclivity to fighting duels.

A white flag with a narrow dark red-white-blue perimeter, and the rectangular city logo centered. The logo is a large white B, filled in blue, surrounded in dark red, with a white star toward the hoist (where the two loops of the 'B' come together). Above is a blue bar bearing THE CITY OF in white, and below another blue bar bearing BENTONVILLE. The date of establishment (1837) is written on the bottom of the white field.

The only photo I was able to take of the flag does show the word "Established" on the hoist side of the flag (so Established logo 1837 on the bottom). Near my work there are city buildings but I noticed there and also at downtown Bentonville yesterday that there is a white border that is placed around the outdoor flags.

Blue variant flag

There seems to be a new pattern used now. At a court house on South Walton Blvd there was a blue flag flying with the Bentonville logo in the center in full color. There was no text that I could see from the flag, but I saw this flag at dusk so who knows what could have been on the blue field. I am not certain when this change was even made but I think I saw this in late June or early July.
Zachary Harden, 4 August 2011

Since I have been in the Bentonville area in August of 2009, there have been 3 designs used by this city for a city flag and all were designed by some marketing team.
