The municipality of Arroba de los Montes (449 inhabitants in 2018; 6,170 ha; municipal website) is located on the border with Extremadura (Province of Badajoz), 70 km north-west of Ciudad Real.
Arroba de los Montes is the birth place of the painter and engraver José
García Ortega (1921-1990). Member of the then illegal Partido Comunista de España since 1941, Ortega was sentenced to 10 years in jail in 1947; pardoned in 1952, he studied at the National School of Graphic Arts and at the Arts Circle in Madrid. Among the founders of the Juglar&iaacute;a group, the first cultural opposition platform, he published El Terror, a series of 10 wood engravings relating his experience in jail. The next
year, he obtained a grant from the French government to study at the
Estienne School and at the Arts School in Paris. He founded in 1958 the Estampa Popular group and had to exile to France in 1960, and, in 1964, to Italy. He was invited in 1972 to present a series of 60 engravings in the exhibition Ortega ± Dürer, organized by the Nürnberg Museum to celebrate the 500th birthday of Albrecht Dürer. Ortega could eventually returned to Spain in 1976.

The flag of Arroba de los Montes is prescribed by an Order issued on 6
June 2001 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 15
July 2001 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 69, pp.
7,340-7,341 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, horizontally divided in two parts, The upper, white; on a one third of the panel, the lower, green. Charged in the center with the crowned municipal coat of arms.
The coat of arms of Arroba de los Montes is prescribed by an Order
issued on 6 June 2001 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and
published on 15 July 2001 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha,
No. 69, p. 7,341 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:
Coat of arms: Vert a castle argent masoned and port and windows sable a chief argent a star azure two bees sable. The shield surmounted by a Spanish Royal crown.
The symbols are supported by a memoir submitted on 25 June 2000 by
Ventura Leblic Garcia to the Municipal Council.
The castle represents the castle of Arroba, mentioned in the 12th-13th
centuries, which served as a base for the re-settlement of the area and
to watch the border with the domain owned by the Order of Calatrava.
The bees recall the Arab etymology of Arroba. Bee-keeping has been a
main source of income for the residents of Arroba for centuries; the
bees are also a symbol of commitment to work and virtue.
The six-pointed star recalls that Arroba was made in 1300, six centuries
ago, the capital of one of the seven cuadrillas established during the
Navas de Estena meeting by Toledo and Talavera de la Reina to jointly protect the territory and defend the interest of the bee-keepers.
In compliance with the common norms of vexillology, the flag uses the
main colors of the coat of arms.
