Flag description

In recent years, there seem two have been at least two different designs for the flag of the Dominican Port Authority, though both follow the same pattern of displaying the Authority's seal on a blue field.

By 14 August 2017, according to a photograph included with an online press article, the coloration of the Port Authority seal had changed slightly, with the inscribed gold ring of the ship's wheel now a grey or silver color with white lettering. [1] This change to coloration has been confirmed in other online photographs, including an 11 April 2018 press article photo [2] and a 12 September 2017 article. [3] In another online news article from 15 December 2018, this version of the flag is clearly seen in a photograph of Gómez Casanova, the head of the Port Authority and the subject of the article. [4] And the same flag appears in a photograph from another online article. [5]

About the organization

The Dominican Port Authority (Autoridad Portuaria Dominicana) is an independent agency of the Dominican Republic government charged with responsibility for overseeing and administering the National Port System, complying with national and international standards, while managing and directing the country's seaports and increasing international trade. [1] The APD was created on 17 December 1970 by Public Law 70-70. [2]

In an online news article from 27 December 2016, the flag of the Dominican Port Authority can be seen in the background, behind the individuals signing the agreement discussed in the article. [1] On the left is the flag of the Asosiación Dominicana de Exportadores, the Dominican Republic's national flag is in the middle, and the flag of the Dominican Port Authority is on the right. This flag features the Port Authority seal on a blue field. The seal, itself, is in the general shape of a ship's wheel, with the spokes and outer braided circle in white, a golden ring at the center inscribed with the agency's name and year of creation (1970) in blue text, and the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic on a central white disc. Another online news article and photograph indicate that this design was in use as early as February 2015. [2] This design was still in use by 24 February 2017, according to a photograph and news article online. [3]

A image in this pattern was published in Flag Report in 1 April 2012, but info was elaborated at less one year before. The photo source probably was taken in 2010 or before. I believe that the flag was in use after many years, even from the XX Century.

There is a third design, still similar to the two already mentioned, that is shown on Wikipedia. This graphic was created in September 2013 by Wikimedia user Cheposo as his/her own work. While I can find no photographic evidence online to support that this design actually found use, it does fit the general pattern and would logically be an earlier version of the two already presented. The Wikimedia version shows the same Port Authority seal, but with the the ship's wheel, spokes, and braid all in gold.
