Vitebsk region is to get a flag and emblem of its own. After a hot debate, Vitebsk dwellers chose the emblem of Vitebsk of 1856. It has a silver equestrian on a red background. He holds a sword in his right and and Evfrosinia's cross in his left hand. The flag of Vitebsk will have a green color, which symbolizes the forests of the Vitesbk region. Flag and coat of arms adopted on June, 2 2009.
