Flag of the the Sociedad Oceanográfica de Guipüzcoa

The flag of the Sociedad Oceanográfica de Guipüzcoa is blue with a white cross. In the middle is placed the emblem of the Society surrounded by the yellow letters "S" (left), "O" (right), and "G" (bottom).
The scroll around the globe reads "primus circumdedisti me" (Latin, "you circumnavigated me first"), the motto on the arms of Juan Sebastién de Elcano, the first seaman who ever made the complete circuit of the globe, who was born in Guetaria/Getaria, Guipúzcoa province.

The design of the flag was approved by the Society on 25 August 1915. The Ministry of the Navy aproved its use on board of the Society's oceanographic boats, together with the Spanish merchant flag, on 9 June 1916.
The Society also asked for permission to use it on land, but they didn't obtain any reply. Today, the flag is not flown on the Society's headquarters - the Aquarium of Donostia / San Sebastián - and the Society has no research boats or ships.
