It is a black-yellow-green vertical tricolour. The coat of arms is shifted towards the top in the yellow stripe.

Tanna Coat of Arms

Shield Sable with base Vert, over all at dexter a lion rampant Or tongued Gules and at sinister an eradicated fir Argent.
Meaning:
Tanna had been a possession of the Lords of Lobdeburg in 1232 and was acquired by the Reeves of Gera in the middle of the 13th century. The reeves donated the local parish church to the Teutonic Order in 1279. Tanna belonged to the Lordship of Reuß-Schleiz and to its successors from 1590 until 1918. Tanna gained city rights in 1495 and had a proper mayor and council since 1525. The pattern of the arms changed in minor details, e.g. until 1989 the lion and and a green fir stood on top of the base. The current pattern is based on the version of Otto Hupp from 1925. The lion is taken from the arms of the Reuß kin. The fir (German: Tanne) is canting. The pattern was first mentioned in the city chronicle from 1514. The colours of the banner are a repetition of the tinctures of the arms.
