Himmelstadt Coat of Arms

Shield Argent parted by a fess wavy Azure, above three stemmed heraldic roses Gules in fan, beneath a cypher "HP" of the same.
Meaning:
Himmelstadt was first mentioned in 820. It had been a possession of the Bishopric of Würzburg between 840 and 1803, which is symbolised by the tinctures silver and red. The cypher is the mark on border stones of the Cistercian Himmelpforten Nunnery, which was founded in 1231 by Bishop Hermann of Lobdeburg (1225 - 1254). The roses are taken from the seal of the nunnery's convent. The roses are also an attribute of its patron St. Mary. The blue fess wavy is a representation of the Main River crossing the municipality.
