Helmbrechts Coat of Arms

Baroque shield parted per pale, at dexter quartered of Argent and Sable, at sinister Argent an eagle Gules armed Or.
Meaning:
Helmbrechts was acquired by the Burgraves of Nürnberg in 1386 and gained the status of a market town shortly after. It gained city rights according to the pattern of Hof in 1422. According to a report from 1692 coat of arms and a banner had been granted to the city in 1524. The arms are based on the first seal, which was made at the same time and already displayed the quartered shield of the Zollern kin and the red eagle of the Margraves of Brandenburg. The pattern remained basically the same, but changed in details. The pattern is confirmed by a coloured painting from 1581. The city seal from 1600 displayed a sinister facing eagle. In 1819 the quartered shield had the tinctures of Bayern, white and blue, the eagle then had been either golden or silver in a blue field. In 1857 the pattern based on the first seal was restored.
