Proposed realignment

On 28 March 2021, the citizens of Moutier are called for a vote to decide whether they want to remain in the Bern canton or to be incorporated in the Jura canton.
An earlier vote organized on 16 June 2017 was nullified by the Administrative Court because of several irregularities.
The municipal administration of Moutier expected the vote to be held on 9 May, while the Executive Council of the Bern canton proposed an earlier date, 7 February. Tripartite negotiation organized by the Federal Office of Justice, yielded a compromise.

To support the incorporation of Moutier to Jura, the municipality of Delémont, the capital of Jura, has released a Flag of Jura with "MOUTIER" added in white letters on the fifth stripe of the flag, which "historically represents the Moutier district".
