Thierstein Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a sinister facing hind salient Or, issuant from base a mount of boulders Argent, charged with an inescutcheon quartered of Argent and Sable.
Meaning:
The hind in literature always is referred to as "the animal" (German: "das Tier"), and is thus canting. The pattern with hind and mount is known from local seals since 1518. The shield of the Zollern kin there had been in base as part of the circumscription. The ensemble was canting and called "the animal over the stones" (German: "das Tier über den Steinen"). The (current) pattern also appeared on a seal from the 17th century and an almanac of arms from 1767, Since 1819 the inescutcheon had the Bavarian tinctures blue and white, the Zollern colours were restored already in the 19th century.
