Landsberg Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, on top of a triplemount Vert issuant from base a Latin cross patty Gules.
Meaning:
Landsberg is a city at least since 1260. The first seal is mentioned in 1293, probably the same proven by the existence of two prints from 1325. These seals and later secret seals from the 14th and 15th century displayed the cross on top of a triangular mount, flanked by two inescutcheons displaying the Bavarian lozengy shield and the lion of the Wittelsbach kin, in base was a 6-point star (see: city webpage). The cross is symbolising the Marktfrieden, a special guarantee of personal inviolacy, security and peace for the market place as such and its visitors. It was enforced by the Marktherr, literally the "Lord of the Market", a substitute of the local sovereign. Cross and triplemount appear on all seals since 1429 and on rolls of arms since 1530.
