Unterammergau Coat of Arms

Renaissance shield Vert, a stag salient Argent armed Or, in base a hammer Argent hafted Or and a scythestone Argent in saltire.
Meaning:
The stag is representing forestry and hunting and the woods around the village. Unterammergau is the most densely wooded municipality of Bayern. The royal hunting lodge "Wilder Jäger" had been in the Halbammertal, a local valley. The green colour is alluding to meadows, fields and woods. Hammer and scythestone are symbolising the important production of scythestones in the past. In the village had been more than 50 watermills for the production of the stones. Around 1900 the annual production of scythestones had been 250,000. The business ended around 1950 due to the invention of mowing machines.
