About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field.

Coat of arms

Shield Or, a beech tree proper flanked by a hammer Sable at dexter and a bundle of clothes Azure at sinister. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "FANHÕES".
Meaning:
The tree is symbolizing the local landscape and alluding to the commune's name and thus canting. The hammer is representing the many local paviours, some of them are said to be the best worldwide. The bundle is symbolizing the local laundresses, doing a good part of washing for Lisboa.
