It is a slightly untypical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of yellow and red .

The arms are Or upon base wavy of Azure and Argent a rampant lion Gules charged with a scallop Argent in dexter and sinister chief an amphora Gules. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CERNACHE".

Cernache is one of the 31 communes of Coimbra Municipality (q.v.); it had 4048 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 19,17 km².
