uMlalazi Local Municipality

uMlalazi is located in the uThungulu District in KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa and comprises the former local authorities of Eshowe, Gingindlovu and Mtunzini.  A new municipal flag, being an armorial banner from the shield of the municipal arms, was registered with the South African Bureau of Heraldry on 03 September 2004 and is described as follows:

"A rectangular flag, proportion 2:3, per saltire, red, white blue and white, in chief a yellow lion passant gardant, dexter a black elephant contourné with elevated trunk and white tusks, sinister a palm-nut vulture resting its dexter claw on a raffia palm nut, and in base a white raffia palm tree with yellow fruit."

The municipal coat of arms were registered at the Bureau of Heraldry on 20 April 2004 with the following blazon:

Arms: Per saltire, Gules, Argent, Azure and Argent, in chief a lion passant gardant Or, dexter an elephant contourné Sable with trunk elevated and tusks Argent, sinister a Palm-nut Vulture resting its dexter talons on a raffia Palm nut proper, and in base a Raffia Palm tree Argent, fructed Or. 
Crest: Issuant from a mural crown Argent, plumes of the Sakabula Bird Sable, with a single plume in the centre, Argent.                                                        
Mantling: Azure and Argent.                                    
Supporters: Dexter, a private soldier of the Buff Regiment (late 19th Century) habited and fully accoutred holding in his dexter hand a rifle, proper, and sinister a Zulu warrior in full war attire holding in his sinister hand an ox-hide shield pied at random, Sable and Argent, an assegai and a knobkierie proper.                                       
Special compartment: On a grassy mound, three fallen leaves Vert.                                                          
Motto: uMLALAZI
