Schwangau Coat of Arms

Triangular shield Gules a swan combatant Argent armed Or.
The arms are the canting arms of the Lords of Schwangau. The lords had been commissionaires of the Welfen kin and later of the Staufen kin. The gained the privilege of being a subject under direct imperial rule in the 13th century and died out in 1536. There lordship included imperial fiefdoms and Allodial estates as well. The existence of their arms is proven by seal prints since 1200 and a coloured painting in the Zürich Roll of Arms (1335) and the Donaueschingen Roll of Arms (1440), furthermore on local tombstones. Duke Albrecht V of Bayern acquired the Lordship of Schwangau in 1567.
