Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, a messenger passant, dressed and capped Vert, holding an envelope Argent sealed Gules in his right hand and a spear Gules bladed Azure in bend sinister in his left hand.
The village was founded by the Counts of Lauffen, who died out in 1220. The first local seal with prints since 1299 displayed the family arms of the Lauffen kin, an eaglet. The second seal before 1311 only displayed the Badenian bend. The city belonged to Baden until 1346. In 1361 Württemberg acquired the city. The third seal probably appeared not before 1450. It already displayed the messenger as a canting element, because he could be also be interpreted as a runner (German: Läufer). The existence of this pattern could be proven also on bells and paintings since 1567. The envelope was added in 1593.
