Dillingen Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a bend sinister Argent, above right a fleur-de-lis Or in bend, beneath left two 6-point stars Or in bend sinister.
Meaning:
Dillingen was first mentioned as a city in 1264. Already the first seal prints displayed the current arms. Since the 16th century there had been alternative patterns, stars and fleur-de-lis changed their positions, sometimes there had been two fleur-de-lis, sometimes the stars were replaced by a flower. A secret seal from the 18th century displayed the fleur-de-lis in bend sinister. This version was later used as antetype in the medal of the mayor (1819), in the official blazon (1839) and in literature. The bend sinister is taken from the arms of the Counts of Dillingen, who ruled the city until 1258. The fleur-de-lis is representing the local court. The stars are an attribute of St. Mary, the local patron saint of the Bishopric of Augsburg.
