Deggendorf Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, on waves Argent issuant from base an embattled gate of the same masoned Sable with open wings Or, chief lozengy of Argent and Azure.
Meaning:
Deggendorf gained city rights in 1316. The oldest seal print from 1371 already displayed the current pattern of the arms. The embattled gate is symbolising the walled city, the wavy base the location on the banks of the Donau River (Danube) and the lozenges the rule of the Wittelsbach kin. Since 1480 the pattern was modified by additional embattled walls on either side, the omission of the waves and a higher tower. Since 1523 the arms were displayed on Gothic shields on seal and in rolls of arm, the latter often displayed two additional turrets. The oldest pattern was restored in 1939.

The colours of the banner are tradional. The arms were restored on 23 February 1939 by governor (Reichsstatthalter) of Bayern on behalf of the city council.
