The coat of arms was adopted in 1997, but it appears nothing more is known according to the council. It measures 80cm tall by 60cm wide. Above the shield is a yellow ribbon which reads "Año de 1997, Municipio de Teopisca" indicating its year of adoption and municipality. The shield is divided into three horizontal sections. The upper section has a border of flames, and depicts a king of the Kerem Culture that settled in the area, descendants of the Mayans (their name means "small"). It was copied from a vase with engravings on both sides, an artifact of this culture; it also depicts three animals, three hieroglyphics, an ear of corn, a fish skeleton, deer with snake, and a vine-like plant.
The middle is divided into two sections; the left section depicts three hills, representing the Juna Kerem, Pelón, and El Chiapas hills. A ploughed field for agriculture is also seen. The right side depicts the Municipal Building with its bell used on 15 September for Independence Day festivities, representing a historic construction from over 90 years ago. The lower section depicts a left hand, representing the effort in the work of the majority of its residents; three grains of corn are seen on the hand, a symbol of the achievements through effort.
