The flag

I own a table flag of El Cajon, which seems to date back to the 1990s. The flag appears to still be in use today, as it can be seen here: https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com. The seal represents the area El Cajon sits on and its history with nations who have conquered the area, with the flag's background being the colors of their flags and the white extending into the seal, representing their hands working together.

Thanks to the efforts of the city clerk, I found out that in 1986 or 1987 (likely the former), the city approved a contest to design a city flag. It was open to all residents and former residents, announcements sent to all local papers, art groups, and schools. The only requirement for this contest was that the city seal had to be used.
The designer and winner was Tony Galanti, his design being officially unveiled on November 12, 1987 — the city’s 75th anniversary. Note that this flag was not adopted by resolution or ordinance.
