Coat of Arms

image from the Municipal Council (colorized)

The coat of arms was adopted on 11 December 1998, being designed by Juan Gaston Zozaya Durazo, being adopted as the council felt the need. A description of the coat of arms is provided by the council:

1.- In the upper part, inside a ribbon of blue color is found which has the name of the Municipality and its State.
2.- In the upper-center part of the Shield, the bust of an Ópata indigene which represents the origin of its population and its autochthonous race.
3.- Going around the upper-center part of the shield, two branches of laurel which symbolize glory and greatness of its race.
4.- Inside the first square with sky blue background, three ophos and two interlocking hands, representing the pureness of its people, the origin of its name, and the fraternity with which Villa Hidalguenses stretch to our Mexican brothers.
OPHO: Indigene name of ironwood.
Opotho: Old name of the Municipality that means "DENSE AREA OF IRONWOOD"
5.- In the upper-right square, it represents religion and one of our greatest cultural centers and tourist attractions that the Municipality has, which is, the Temple to San Ignacio de Loyola, constructed on 10 November 1946.
6.- In the lower-left square, we find the bust of a mine worker and a transport of material denominated YUCLE; which represents the mining activity of the Municipality and that absorbs 36% of the population economically active.
7.- In the lower-right square, we find some stalks of wheat and a head of cow, which represent the two oldest productive and important activities of the Municipality.
8.- As such, the shield contains the most transcendental of the Municipality in the historic, social, political, and economical areas.

The border of the shield reads the motto "HONESTIDAD JUSTICIA IGUALDAD" [Honesty, Justice, Equality]; and of course OPHOTO at the top. COA from the council and colorized.
