Flag

I was informed by the council that there is a municipal flag, adopted in 2021. I was actually really surprised, due to the remote nature of the municipality. A speculative image is attached.

Coat of Arms

image from Facebook

The coat of arms was painted by Manuel García Madrid, Council of Culture in the Mountainous Zone, in 1997 and adopted at his request. The coat of arms has a border in black and red, with the National Eagle holding on to it from the top, symbolizing the nationality. Below his beak is a scroll reading OPODEPE. And below this is text reading NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA ASUNCION [Our Lady of the Assumption], whose temple is depicted just below. Again, below this there is a feather in ink and an open book, symbolizing the importance of education. To the right are three forms of pottery in different shapes and sizes, plus an unknown item (?); above is a hill symbolic of the mountainous environment. To the lefthand side, there is a cluster of different fruits of the region: wheat, flowers, limes, lemons, oranges, watermelons, corn, and tomatoes. Below are two blackbirds symbolic of the fauna of the region. All are in the upper half, with the field being nine alternating rays of two light colors then pink and blue, plus the sun at its center split in half. In the center is a band reading FUNDADO POR EL P. PEDRO PANTOJA (1639) [founded by the Father Pedro Pantoja]. In the center is another sun reading the year 1934, when it became a municipality again. The lower half is in the national colors, again for patriotic spirit. The left depicts a head of cattle and plant, to the right a deer and horse, symbolic of the fauna and cattle-raising industry here. In the center is a map of the municipality, depicting the road and its communities. The tree bearing OPO inscribed on it remembers the municipal name: in the plain of ironwood, next to a ravine. At the bottom is a ribbon reading UNIENDO ESFUERZOS FORJAREMOS NTRA GRANDEZA [Uniting Efforts we will Forge Our Greatness].
