NOTE: The illustration provided is the one actually used by the Council, an oversimplification which leaves out some elements (such as the legend, cipher, torch).

In an ordinary session of the council on 13 January 1984, during the tenure of Municipal President Bermúdez López, a contest was proposed for the adoption of a municipal coat of arms. On 24 March, the design by engineer Eligo Burgos was chosen as the winner of the contest. Description from the Municipal Edict of Police and Government:

The coat of arms of Imuris is divided into three parts. In the two upper ones two vases with agricultural products are symbolized, that of which are obtained in the region are: plum, peach, daisy, and marigold. To the center of the upper part, the coat of arms of the state is found, since the author of the same wanted to make reference to the state to which the municipality pertains. In the upper-left part mining is symbolized, which hasn't been exploited as would be expected despite the multiple existing mines. To its right cattle-raising is symbolized, one of the principal sources of income and holds a place important in the production of heads of cattle in the state. In the lower part, in the upper angle of the left side, the municipal palace. To the right the dam of Comaquito is found and as a symbol the ruins of the Mission of Cocóspera are illustrated. In descriptive form and surrounding the Mission of Cocóspera the rivers Bambuto and Babasac are found. In the lower part the cipher MDCL (1650) is identified, year of the foundation of the Municipality. The coat of arms is enmarked with a ribbon, in the upper part, where a torch appears along with the legend which recites "Noble y Leal tierra de Imuris" [Noble and Loyal land of Imuris].
