Coat of Arms

image from archivos.juridicas.unam.mx

The council informed me they do not have information regarding their coat of arms. The coat of arms has the same form as the coat of arms of the state, having a helmet at the top and a ribbon under in the National Colors reading MISION DE STA MARIA DE LOS DOLORES, the original mission here. The sides of the border read LAMPAZOS DE NARAJO, N. LEON; at the bottom, TIERRA DE PROCERES [Land of Great Men] is read. The inner area is divided into four sections and also has a smaller section at the bottom. The upper-left section depicts the Mission of Santa María de los Dolores, today a local history museum. The upper-right section depicts a crowned red rampant lion, symbol of the state. The center-left section depicts trees by water, signifying the Watering Hole of Lampazos where the settlement was founded. The center-right section depicts big and green leaves, signifying the Lampazos part of its name. In the center is an inescutcheon depicting the Mesa de Catajunos, occupied by Indians in historic times. Under the four sections, the smaller fifth section depicts a cannon and four arrows for armed fights between the Indians and Spaniards.
