The coat of arms of Guachochi was adopted on 30 September 1983, being designed by Francisco Guerra Peña. This was adopted through a call for submissions from the council; the motto was the work of Everardo Quintana. The shield is divided into three sections; first diagonally across, then the right side split in half. The upper section, on a yellow field, depicts an open book reading the motto of the municipality: "Trabajo, Educación, y Progreso" [Work, Education, and Progress]; the right side reads "ENERO 9 DE 1963", when it got its first municipal council. Below is an Indian and mestizo handshaking to show fraternity and collaboration. Also found in this half is the figure of a white heron on reeds by the water, representing the origin of the place name which means "place of herons" in Tarahumara. To the left side is a bundle of eight logs on earth, with a canyon visible. Also visible on the earth is a tree and grass. Above the name "GUACHOCHI" is read in a ribbon connected to the shield, having a background on top of this.
