The coat of arms was adopted through a contest, headed by the Commission of Culture presided by Pedro Romero Camacho. It was launched in December 1969, having fliers patronized by the bottling company of the valley that was property of the Soto Campos and Soto Armendáriz family. Serving as jurors were Jesús Medina Gutierrez, Bertha García, and Julio Saénz Irigoyen, who announced the results on 7 February 1970. The result was that the design by Héctor Moreno García was chosen.
For the inner section: Entirely over yellow field, the upper-right depicts the San Bartolomé church. The lower left carries a walnut tree, characteristic of the area. It is divided by the Valle de Allende River, having a bridge connecting both sides. As a motto on its border, it reads "LA FE COMO GUIA, LEALTAD COMO NORMA" [Faith as a Guide, Loyalty as a Norm]. At the bottom reads "VALLE DE SAN BARTOLOME", the original name of the area. A more elaborate border is found to this in yellow and red, with a helmet topping it off for nobility.
