Kazakhstan is divided into 17 regions (Kazakh: oblysy), 4 cities which are administered separately from their surrounding geographic regions.
The regions are subdivided into counties (Kazakh: audany).
The counties are further subdivided into rural districts.

- Akmola Region (Aqmola oblysy)
- Aktobe Region (Aqtöbe oblysy)
- Almaty Region (Almaty oblysy)
- Atyrau Region (Atyrau oblysy)
- East Kazakhstan Region (Şyğys Qazaqstan oblysy)
- Jambyl Region (Jambyl oblysy)
- Jetisu Region (Jetısu oblysy)
- Karaganda Region (Qarağandy oblysy)
- Kostanay Region (Qostanai oblysy)
- Kyzylorda Region (Qyzylorda oblysy)

- North Kazakhstan Region (Soltüstık Qazaqstan oblysy)

- West Kazakhstan Region (Batys Qazaqstan oblysy)
Cities of republican significance:
- Almaty city (Almaty qalasy)
- Astana city (Astana qalasy) - formerly Nur-Sultan, the capital city of Kazakhstan
- Baikonur city (Baiqoñyr qalasy) - city is currently being leased to Russia along with Baikonur Cosmodrome until 2050
- Shymkent city (Şymkent qalasy)
