Presentation of Armas

Naviera Armas (website), today the most important shipping company in Canary Islands, was established in 1941 in Lanzarote by Antonio Armas Curbelo. Armas originally transported salt and freight from island to island, operating wood-hulled, wind and motor-powered ships. He subsequently operated steel-hulled, steam and diesel-powered ships, which allowed him to increase the company's lines to Spanish Sahara.
The founder was succeeded by his son, Antonio Armas Fernández, still president of the company. In 1975, he launched Volcán de Yaiza and Volcán de Tahíche, the first two ferries that sailed in the Canary Islands. The company ordered in 1985 in Vigo two new-built ferries, Volcán de Tauce and Volcán de Tejeda to enter the passenger and freight ferries' market.

Naveria Armas currently operates four fast ferries (Volcán de Tagoro, Alborán, Volcán de Tirajana, Volcán de Teno) and ten ferries (Volcán de Tinamar, Volcán del Teide, Volcán de Tijarafe, Volcán de Tamadaba, Volcán de Taburiente, Volcán de Timanfaya, Volcán de Tamasite, Volcán de Tindaya, Volcán de Tauce, Volcán de Teneguia).

House flag of Armas

While the company's original house flag, a swallow-tailed flag, quartered blue-yellow by a thin white cross, in the middle the red emblem of the company on a white disk. is still painted on the ferries' superstructure, Armas changed its livery and uses a completely different, red, gray and white logo. An even former logo of the same colors was used on a company's flag.
