Overview

Colegio Nacional Juan Pío Montúfar was established in Quito by Decree No. 1,551 promulgated on 26 December 1941, and inaugurated on 20 October 1942.

The school is named for Juan Pío de Montúfar (1358-1819), 2nd Marquess de Selva Alegre, who acted as the first President of the Autonomous Government established in Quito, from 10 August to 22 September 1809, and is therefore considered as the "First President of Revolutionary America".
