Bad Lobenstein Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a hound´s head parted per pale of Argent and Sable.
Meaning:
Lobenstein was first mentioned in 1250, probably founde by the Lords of Lobdeburg. Since 1278 the Reeves of Gera owned the local castle. The castle had been seat of a small lordship as a fiefdom of the Kingdom of Böhmen. Between 1597 and 1918 it belonged to the lordship of the Younger Branch of Reuß. Between 1647 and 1848 it had been residence of the brnach of Reuß-Lobenstein. The settlement developed alongside the road between Leipzig and Bamberg. Its inhabitants were called citizens since 1278, the settlement was called city since 1369. The existence of mayor and council is proven since 1411. Textiles industries had been the most important business lines. The hound´s head had been the crest of the helms of both branches of the Counts of Reuß.
