About the flag

Also, I've seen [communal] flags in Maipú.

I found recently the communal flag of Maipú (Metropolitan Region). I send to you a reproduction. You can see a better resolution image in http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Maipu%2C_Chile.svg.

It is a 2:3 white flag with a blue border all around, its thickness approximately 1/7th of the flag’s height. Centered on it, the municipal emblem, its height approximately half the flag’s height.

I designed a version of the municipal flag for Wikipedia: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag of Maipu, Chile.svg. It is composed by the coat of arms over white and a blue border. The coat of arms features the "Abrazo de Maipú" (embrace of Maipu) of José de San Martín and Bernardo O'Higgins after the Battle of Maipu, on 5 April 1818, that secured the independence of Chile. In the background, is the Templo Votivo (the principal Catholic temple of the commune), built in conmemoration of the battle and the help of the Virgin Mary to the Chilean troops. In the top is the classic hat used by the soldiers in the times of the Independence with a sword and a rifle. In the sides of the coat it says "Cuna de la Patria" (Cradle of the Fatherland).
