The municipality of Jataí (3,576 inhabitants in 2004; 1,933 sq. km) is located in the south of Mato Grosso do Sul, 265 km of Campo Grande (the state capital). The municipality was created on 11 November 1963 by Law No. 1950. Its name comes from "jataí", the local name of a wild bee producing highly esteemed honey.

The flag shown, graphically, on the municipal website, is horizontally divided green-white-green with the municipal coat of arms in the middle. Wikipedia shows a green flag with a thin white cross and the municipal coat of arms placed on a white disc in the middle of the flag. However, photos available in the image gallery of the municipal website consistently show the flag in use, either indoors or outdoors, as horizontally divided green-white-green-white-green with the municipal coat of arms placed on a white disc itself placed on a blue lozenge:

The last mentioned photo shows the flag in all detail; accordingly, the coat of arms used on the real flags is slightly different from the one shown on drawings. Especially, there should be bees above the honeycomb shown in the lower, blue part of the shield and recalling the origin of the name of the municipality. The plant hold by the arm shown in the upper right quarter should be green instead of white.
