The Flag

Enjoying a stay at the Pechanga Resort for the last three days I've got a chance to observe the new flag of this Indian Nation displayed proudly at the entrance to the hotel at 45000 Pechanga Parkway, Temecula, CA, alongside the U.S. and California flags.

Multiple inquiries didn't give me an exact date of the adoption of the new flag, besides the estimate that it happened sometime last year. The new flag has a field of blue framed in gold border (not fringe) with the tribal seal placed in its center. The seal portrays a branch of the oak tree with two leaves and two acorns and in the background is a silhouette of the San Jacinto mountain range. Below the acorns is a legend saying "WIIWSH" in gold letters. It is a name of the traditional Luiseņo dish - an acorn mash. The ring around the seal contains a full name of the Nation as stated in the official tribal documents : "Temecula Band of Luiseņo Mission Indians - Pechanga Reservation Riverside County CA".

In reality, the common name used is just "Pechanga Band".

A white flag bearing the tribe logo in the center. They use two flags, but the other one (although handsome) is of purely commercial nature.
