The Slovak Vexillological Society

The Slovak Vexillological Society (Slovenská vexilologická spoločnosť) was founded on the 30th October 2018 in Martin. The date was chosen intentionally as it marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Martin declaration where Slovak intellectuals called for joining Czechoslovakia. The chairman of the new society is MUDr. TomᚠBalhárek, PhD. During the constituent meeting in Martin the society adopted its own symbols including a flag and an emblem/seal.

At the moment I have no official information on the flag and arms past this but judging from the depiction, we can say the flag has a 2:3 ratio and is inspired by the Slovak coat of arms. The flag is divided into 5 vertical stripes at a ratio of 2:1:2:1:2 and 3 horizontal stripes at a ratio of 2:1:2 (the vertical stripes are thus 2/8 and 1/8 of the length of the field while the horizontal stripes are 2/5 and 1/5 of the height of the field) creating 15 fields. The fields have the following colours, from top hoist to bottom fly:
1st row: red, white, red, white, blue
2nd row: white, blue, white, blue, white
3rd row: red, white, red, white, blue

The flag is likely derived from the Slovak arms. The four red fields in hoist represents the red field of the arms, the two blue fields in the fly represent the Slovak trimount and the white fields create a double Patriarchal cross" from the arms.

The emblem of the society contains another version of this flag but with the two blue fields extended to double their length into a swallow tail, cutting a "v" into the fly white field.

There have also been alternate designs for the flag before the final depiction was chosen.
