Description of the flag

Manassas is located in Prince William County in northern Virginia. Manassas, like Fredericksburg, Richmond, Virginia Beach, and others, is what's known as an "independent city" in the Commonwealth. This means that it is its own municipal entity, not subject to any county government, although the entire city of Manassas is surrounded by Prince William County. Anyway, the city's flag features the city seal displayed on a white field.

Town Hall

The city seal depicts the old Manassas Town Hall. "Manassas’ first town hall was built in 1915. It was designed by local architect Albert Speiden in the Colonial Revival style. The balustraded platform supporting the domed cupola was removed after being damaged in a storm in 1952 but was restored to the building in 2002. The lower arched windows were once the bays for the fire company that occupied the first floor with the town council chamber occupied the second floor."

"The old Manassas Town Hall served as the symbol of the progressive town during the early 1900s. A sophisticated Colonial Revival composition exhibiting a rusticated stone and brick base, segmental-arched openings with keystones, wrought iron balconets, and a refined classical cornice with castellated parapet, the brick building was originally surmounted by a balustraded platform supporting a domed wooden cupola that was later removed. Manassas Town Hall was finished in 1915 and housed the fire company on the first floor and town council chamber above. A two-story brick rear addition was built in 1930."
