The Deep Creek Lake flag and pennant were created as part of a contest hosted by the DCL100 Committee, established to celebrate the centennial anniversary since the creation of Deep Creek Lake in 1925. The flag and pennant contest ran from June 6 until the deadline of June 25, with the winning designs being unveiled in a follow-up post on the 27th.

According to a response by the DCL100, The designer of the flag stated that "This design incorporates the blue and green from the DCL100 logo which captures the green of the hills and the blue of the lake. Since Deep Creek Lake has three letters, it was a natural fit for a monogram-style design superimposed over the lake's silhouette."

The pennant shares the same design as the flag. The monogram to the hoist, and the two bars intersecting at a point on the fly.
