Necmettin Erbakan University (website) was
established, as Konya University, by Law No. 6,005, passed on 14 July
2010 and published on 21 July 2010 in the Turkish official gazette, No.
27,648.
The university was renamed to Necmettin Erbakan University by Law No.
6,287, published on 11 April 2012 in the Turkish official gazette, No.
2,821. Necmettin Erbakan (1926-2011) was Prime Minister of Turkey in
1996-1997 and Member of the Grand National Assembly representing the
Konya constituency (1969-1980, 1991-1999).
