Presentation of Kuzma

The municipality of Kuzma was formed in 1995 by separation from Murska Sobota. In 1998, part of the municipality formed the new municipality of Grad. Kuzma was named after the parish church's patron saint, St. Cosmas (Kuzma), the patron saint of medical art, very much revered in Slovenia.

Municipal flag of Kuzma

The flag and coat of arms of Kuzma are prescribed by Decision Odlok o spremembah odloka o uporabi grba in zastave Občine Kuzma, adopted on 29 October 1999 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije 93/99 on 18 November 1999, with effect on 19 November 1999. The Decision was amended by Spremembe in dopolnitve statuta Občine Kuzma, adopted on 2 February 2001 and published in Uradni list Republike Slovenije 12/01 on 23 February 2001, with effect on 24 February 2001.

The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made. These symbols are based on those previously used for a short time.

The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:5, vertically divided in five fields, blue-white-blue-white-blue in proportion 3-3-8-3-3. The middle field is square of blue colour and contains the dove and stars from the coat of arms.

The colour specifications, not included in the Decision, are given by Stanič & Jakopič [j2s05] as:
- Dark yellow: Pantone 109
- Light yellow: Pantone 1225
- Green: Pantone 355
- Blue: Pantone 300
- Red: Pantone 185
- Black: Pantone Black

The coat of arms of Kuzma is "Tierced in chevron fimbriated with white stones topped with triangular diamond, chief dexter gules, chief sinister vert, base azure a dove rising argent under an arc of five mullets or".
According to Valt Jurečič, the three fields of the shield are divided with stones and triangular cornerstone in the chief. The fields are coloured with the national colours of the three neighbouring states (red for Austria, blue for Slovenia, and green for Hungary). In the middle blue field is a dove of peace, with five stars symbolizing the five villages that form the municipality.

Former flag and coat of arms and Kuzma

Decision Odlok o uporabi grba in zastave Občine Kuzma was adopted on 18 June 1999 and published in the Slovenian official gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije 60/99 on 29 July 1999, with effect on 30 July 1999.
The Decision only regulated the use of the symbols, which are prescribed by the Municipal Statutes Statut Občine Kuzma, adopted on 12 March 1999 and published in Uradni list Republike Slovenije 21/99 on 31 March 1999, with effect on 15 April 1999.
These symbols were soon abandoned, after only few months.

The coat of arms was horizontally divided with the blue top containing the three-border stone, in the middle was a bird flying over a hilly region. The lower half included two green hills with a stream representing the Lukaj potok dividing them. On the left hill were fields and on the right one were five disks, representing the five villages that constitute the municipality.

The flag was for vertical hoisting only, diagonally divided white and green, with the stone and the bird lined black from the coat of arms in upper left.
