Coat of arms

Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent, issuant from base a throughout bridge Gules, sailing on base a cargo vessel (Port.: barco rabelo) Sable rigged Azure, in chief a pair of scales Vert balanced by a sword flamant in pale. Eja is better known as Entre-os-Rios (= between the rivers), the part having existed already in Roman times opposite of Eja proper between Tamego River and Douro River. St. Michael is patron saint of the churches of both, Eja and Entre-os-Rios, sword and scales refer to him. The bridge is probably representing the new bridge across Douro River.
