About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field (village rank).

The arms are Purpure a daisy Argent eradicated seeded Or, in chief a goat passant Argent between two millstones Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "BENQUERENÇAS".
Meaning:
"Benquerença" (sing.) means "well-wish(ing)"; no canting. Back in 1993 me and vexillologist José Luís Mendes (with local ancestry) devised a CoA proposal for this commune which was (IIRRC) Vair and on a chief Sable an ant passant Or, which was not considered at the time (flag was proposed to be quartered of vair and black, would would have been unique.).

Presentation of Benquerenças

Benquerenças Commune is one of the 19 communes of Castelo Branco Municipality (q.v.); it had 720 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 61.0 km².
