The blazon: I blått en sølv båt med mast og stag. In English: Azure a boat with a mast and stays argent. (cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stays_%28nautical%29 )
It was approved on 9 December 1983 after a drawing by Hallvard Trætteberg.
[c2j87] recounts how the municipality wanted to have a boat in its coat of arms, as it was dependant on fishing and navigation its entire history. Eventually, a type of a boat known from a 14th century Norwegian seal was chosen (the book shows a 1336 seal of one Eirik Nikolasson, including a similar boat between two mullets in the chief)
