Overview

Valkininkai (Varena District) - on a white field with green stripes on top and bottom edges the arms of Valkininkai: on a red field a sinister faced charging silver armed golden lion, the arms decorated with laurel branches. Flag proportions 5:8, fringe is silver, finial is a silver tip with an openwork laurel spray. The arms granted in 1792 should symbolize power, wisdom, pride and dignity. The sinister faced position of the lion is most likely the consequence of a clerk's heraldic illiteracy: that was very usual for state chancellery of 1790ies. Anyway, the arms became historic, and it was decided in modern times not to "correct" it.
