1737-1769 Flag

image by Jaume Ollé, 19 October 1998

For the XVIII century a strange flag is reported from several plates. I know about some variations (depending of the quality of the pictures). The first one that I saw showed the flag as blue with narrow red stripes, one on top and one on bottom and with aparently one head (no double heads - see below). Also in another plate I noted same flag without figure. Unafortunately in this era I didn't took notes from the source and they are now unavailables. The most comoon design is the above one. Attribued to 1737-1769 (or maybe a little later ?).

Mantova Dukedom

Here is the flag of Mantua Dukedom. The source was an image that appears on "Forum Autonomista" pages, at <www.freeweb.org/associazioni/ForumAutonomista/Immagini/acpa_logo_big.jpg> (defunct). Gianpietro Gallinelli of Cultural Association "Terra Insubre" recognized it as the flag (or Coat of Arms) of Mantua Dukedom.
