Kesultanan Langkat (Sultanate, N.E. Sumatra) - Royal Standard of the
Sultan of Langkat (N. of Deli, S. of both Greater Acheh & Tamiang).
 John
McMeekin, 3 June 2010
The new flag of Langkat Sultanate (the colonial flag had the Arms on a
saffron flag): the new flag has the same Arms on a yellow flag.
Source,
GENTLEMAN'S MILITARY INTEREST CLUB (G.M.I.C.) photo in a magazine about the
Medals of Langkat (search for "ODM of Surakarta", page 4), showing the Sultan's
throne, the Indonesian flag on the left, and the Langkat flag on the right.

I suspect that never was safron, but
dark yellow, the royalty colour. The same but better image is available at
http://m.medanbagus.com/news.php?id=8648. In
http://sultansinindonesieblog.wordpress.com/sumbawa/bima there's a large
list of the modern sultans and rajas in Indonesia.

The Langkat flag sent earlier today is The Sultan's Flag, not the "State Flag".
You will note that the Langkat Arms colouring is slightly different to those
shown normally. The blue motto-riband below is a darker blue than shown in all
the illustrations (see scan below), the snake supporters are red, the shield is
red, with a yellow star, the leaves are green, passing under the riband below.
The crest is also in yellow.

A scan of a black & white flag with the name of the Royal Palace on it
"ISMAHAYANA LANDAK" becomes the Palace Flag? It is shown with markings for
	the flagpole at the left.

The flag of the State of Linge (Kerajaan Linge) which I do believe is
different from Linga presented above (maybe not - just an earlier flag). It was
the first Muslim state formed in 1025 in the Aceh part of Sumatra by Adi
Genali, who, supposedly, came there from Rum (Turkey). It was the state of the
Gayo people, a distinct ethnic group living in the Gayo Highlinds of central
Aceh, known for their devout adherence to Islam, coffee, and the "dance of the
thousand hands"
The red flag features the Islamic creed and the names of
the four companions of the Prophet. This flag can be viewed in the Karo
District, where it is stored.
